Aging is terrifying to me. I’ve always had a terrible relationship with age, I remember spending the night crying on my 10th birthday because age had double digits.
I think a lot of people have a complicated relationship with the inevitable passing of time and its consequences, which I’ve noticed translating into a hatred towards anything revealing that we’ve aged.
Representation in the media and arts of older people is not even close to what it should be. I feel like we have completely forgotten about the beauty in old age.
It is rare to see older (mostly women) in the media or represented as beautiful figures in the arts, and many people are pressured from a young age to keep their youthful look, fighting against the natural loosening of their skin, decay of their teeth or loss of hair.
Older people are beautiful too, and I’d like to see more positive representation of them!
